The achievements of wangari maathai
Wangari was the first East African woman to earn a Doctorate Degree.
Wangari was also the winner of the 2004 Nobel Peace Prize. She received this award because she is said to stand at the front of the fight to promote ecologically viable social, economic, and cultural development in Kenya and Africa. Wangari is said to think globally and act locally.
Wangari is a a women's rights advocate who eventually earned a spot on the National Council of Women of Kenya.
Wangari Maathai authored five books; The Green Belt Movement, Unbowed, The Bottom is Heavy Too, The Challenge for Africa, and The Canopy of Hope
She has also been given many other awards such as the 2004 Kelly Prize for Environment, the 2004 Conservation Scientist Award, and the 2003 WANGO Environment Award.
